Why you shouldn’t play the lottery

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

A gent by the name of Rob Cockerham has created a lottery simulator that pretty much encapsulates why you shouldn't play the lottery.  Here's a quote from my results:

You played 1040 games of Mega Millions. It cost $1040. You won $108.

Incidentally, the highest single win was $10.  The first time I ran the simulator, I only won $56.    Also:

In the 504234 times this simulation has run, players have won $27696303
And by won I mean they have won back $27696303 of the $504234 they spent (5492%).

This part is inaccurate at the moment (probably due to server hammerage).  The number of times the simulation has run went down between my two runs, but the amount of money won went up.

Incredibly Depressing Mega Millions Lottery Simulator! (via Boing Boing, which explains why his server is getting hammered right now).

Yakuza 3 reviewed by Yakuza – Boing Boing

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

This was a great idea for a feature.  Read what actual Yakuza guys have to say about the game Yakuza 3:

Yakuza 3 reviewed by Yakuza - Boing Boing.

Kiryu is fighting all the time. He's gotta be a fucking idiot. No yakuza is going to run around getting into fistfights like that. Especially not an executive type. He'll wind up in jail or in the hospital or dead, maybe even whacked by his own people for being a troublemaker. These days, he'd probably get kicked out before even going to jail. Guys like that start gang wars and nobody wants that now. When a yakuza gets into a fight, it's serious business.

Why Didn’t I Think of That? – Pixel Breakout

パーティクル崩し | wonderfl build flash online.

This is definitely one of those things that seems like such an obviously great idea after someone else comes up with it and implements it.  A neat little remix of Breakout, worthy of a few minutes of your time, if for no other reason than for the awesome light show that results when things go a little crazy.
